Place Stalingrad gets a makeover! Place Stalingrad is a central feature of Neuilly-sur-Marne, and has always played host to major events in the town. Today, it is being transformed into a new living space, with plenty of greenery and a calmer atmosphere. The aims are to reintroduce greenery to the town centre, reconfigure the living spaces to encourage a mix of uses and combat heat islands. Here's a closer look at the two phases of work planned.<\/em><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Time for renaturation<\/strong><\/h3>

Place Stalingrad is one of our town's most popular landmarks.
But it is still too often used simply as a crossing point, without really having a role as a unifying and convivial public space.
Its layout, lacking in vegetation, does not benefit the people of Neuilly-sur-Marne who use it, due to a lack of street furniture and green spaces. To meet the challenges of the city of the future, Neuilly-sur-Marne has decided to renovate Place Stalingrad this autumn.<\/p>

As well as improving the quality of life, renaturation will bring a number of other benefits, such as reducing soil sealing, protecting biodiversity and reducing the heat island phenomenon. The French Ministry of Ecology's scheme for accelerating the ecological transition in the regions, also known as the Green Fund, has already confirmed that it will provide financial support of almost \u20ac1 million for the project.<\/p>

Surface redevelopment: by 2024<\/strong><\/h3>

The first phase of development work will run from autumn 2023 to summer 2024 on the northern part of the square, just in time to celebrate the Paris Olympic Games.
This future island of nature is intended to become a place where people can get together and share ideas. To achieve this, the soil, which is currently earthy, will be replaced by permeable sand derived from Breton rocks.<\/p>

On the banks of the Marne, the pedestrian walkway will soon be paved in natural stone with grassed joints, and will be enhanced by a wisteria pergola running the length of the riverbank. On the roadside, the Club Accueil courtyard and the guinguette car park will be fully integrated into the esplanade.<\/p>

In all, almost 2,600m\u00b2 of tarmac will be transformed into a public space dedicated to greenery and pedestrians. The bandstand and bowling greens will be restored, benches and water fountains installed, and public toilets and bicycle pumps installed...<\/p>

This new configuration of the space will make Place Stalingrad an ideal venue for everyday activities, as well as sporting and cultural events, Christmas markets, flea markets and other highlights, starting with the 2024 Olympics, during which a large fan zone will be set up.<\/p>

Revitalising the town centre<\/strong><\/h3>

The second phase will focus on developing the southern part, and will run until 2025. Place Stalingrad is a key feature of Noc\u00e9's identity, ideally located close to the town centre, and the municipality wishes to make the most of this geographical advantage. The project to redevelop the square involves rebalancing the use of public space to make it easier for users (pedestrians, cyclists and motorists) to get around, and thus guarantee accessibility to our town centre.<\/p>

In 2025, the square will be equipped with new two-way cycle paths along rue Max Dormoy, and the pavements will be designed to provide access for people with reduced mobility.<\/p>

In addition to this major redevelopment, new parking facilities will be created to the west and north of the square. Noc\u00e9 residents will be able to park easily close to the town centre and the Rives de Paris hub, so they can take full advantage of the commercial and tourist attractions our town has to offer.<\/p>

Good news for those with a sweet tooth: the edges of the car parks will be planted with plants adapted to the surrounding climate and fruit trees whose fruit will be freely available for picking. The old centre of Neuilly-sur-Marne is being redesigned around its pedestrianised street. With its cobblestone paving, stone walls and original decoration, rue Cossonneau has become the backbone of a picturesque village right in the centre of the town.<\/em><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

A demographic and economic dynamic<\/strong><\/h3>

Neuilly-sur-Marne currently has a population of almost 38,000. By 2030, the town is expected to have 20,000 more inhabitants.<\/p>

At the same time, just a stone's throw from the old town centre, the \"Ile de la Marne\" eco-district is being built. More than 500 homes will be linked directly to the future Neuilly Village via a pedestrian\/cycle bridge.<\/p>

A wealth of built and natural heritage<\/strong><\/h3>

Listed as a historic monument in 1913, Saint-Baudile church is at the heart of the future Neuilly Village. Bordered by the jardin des simples, where medicinal and aromatic plants are grown, it is also just a few metres from the banks of the Marne, the Port de Plaisance and the traditional guinguettes that attract thousands of visitors every year.<\/p>

In the heart of a tourist area<\/strong><\/h3>

The population of Neuilly-sur-Marne doubles every year during the summer. Thousands of tourists stay at Les Rives de Paris - Neuilly-sur-Marne campsite or Hostel, just an 8-minute walk from Neuilly Village.<\/p>
