The municipal police have a new service specifically dedicated to the fight against pollution. The Environment Brigade officers, who patrol in their electric vehicle, are responsible for make the town cleaner and improve the quality of life for the people of Nocé.
Creation of a Brigade
The town has decided to set up an Environmental Brigade within the municipal police force, to raise public awareness and penalise offenders, particularly in the case of repeat offences. The officers can also use video protection to identify the perpetrators.
On bicycles or in their electric vehicles, equipped with recording equipment, ten officers are swapping their ASVP hats to protect the environment.
Our priority is to cover the whole of the community in order to identify all dumps and have them removed as quickly as possible. When we find proof of identity or when the dumping is in front of a house, for example, our agents contact us. We leave letters in the letterboxes and ask them to call us back. We give them 24 to 48 hours to get in touch with us before fining.
Collaboration between departments
The Environmental Brigade works in close collaboration with around twenty agents from the Environmental Technical Centre, using an IT tool created on the internet to optimise reporting. When an officer sees a dump, he or she relays the information. The municipal police find out about it via the software and check its nature.
